Turn your challenges into your advantages.

As a Type B personality I have always envied people who are able to live a structured and healthy lifestyle. You see those videos on TikTok of "clean girl aesthetic" women living in their nice clean homes, drinking green juice, journaling, and applying skincare to their pimpleless faces. I wish that lifestyle came easily to me, but it's just not in my DNA. I find myself going in and out of routines, one week I will be exercising and keeping my space tidy and the next week I can barely get out of bed or find the motivation to finish my tasks. I have come to the realisation that this is completely okay. Being a Type B personality means you're extroverted, laid back, and flexible in your schedules which can actually be your superpower. So, here is how to navigate a better lifestyle as a Type B person.
Organisation is not at the forefront of a Type B person's mind, so the best way to keep ourselves on track is by visual reminders. I live the work from home lifestyle so my office space at home has everything work/personal related in front of me. Mental checklists are non-existent and downright impossible, keeping a whiteboard on my desk with my weekly schedule and my daily tasks has been a lifesaver for keeping myself on track. Us Type B's cannot change how we work, so allowing there to be some flexibility with my schedule helps me feel less guilty that I am not as organised as others. If I don't get all my daily tasks done, its okay and that realisation will help you be your best version of organised and therefore you'll live a healthier and happier life. So, take things slow and figure out what works best for you.
As any other Type B person would know keeping a tidy space is up there with being one of the hardest things. It's not that my space is dirty, I just struggle to put things back in their place. Now when I notice my space getting out of order, I pop on my feel good playlist and get tidying. When I don't do this, I feel myself getting extremely overwhelmed with the task at hand and that I don't have enough time to complete it. The last thing I or anyone needs in their life is stress, especially over the little things. So, once you get the tunes pumping, the tasks that seemed difficult become manageable. Type B people need to lean into their creativity in order to get things done, and if you're a lover of music this will fix your tidiness issue. My feel good playlist definitely brings up the mood and your self motivation, listen to it here:
Another thing that does not come naturally to Type B people is daily routine. There are 24 hours in the day to do things and my brain will go "meh, I'll do it tomorrow", and then I get absolutely nothing done. In order to keep a daily routine, I keep a list on my whiteboard and set timed reminders in my phone. For example, I have a alarm set for 1pm everyday to remind me to take medication/vitamins, without this my Type B brain would procrastinate and forget that I need to do these things to look after myself. The best reminder for a Type B brain is: when you think of something you have to do, do it straight away. So, if you find yourself thinking: "Have I drunk enough water today?", drink a glass. "When was the last time I went to the dentist?", book an appointment. "Have I exercised enough?", do a couple of squats. This allows us Type B people to look after ourselves on our own schedule, rather than the schedule of others.
One of the best attributes Type B people have is there intuitive nature. Our greatest superpower is being able to use this in all areas of our lives, however some people don't realise how to utilise it. In a work landscape, tap into this attribute in order to do better work. Whether that be creating a better workplace culture or understanding your clients or customers. Within relationships, look from outside yourself at your relationship. Is there more you can be doing for your partner? How are they feeling? With yourself, what is your body and mind telling you it needs? Do you need rest but feel guilty because of tight schedules? Take the bloody nap. Ultimately, the best way for a Type B person to have a better lifestyle is to use their attributes that are usually seen as lazy and turn them into your biggest accomplishment.
